Family History Second Generation Margaret "Peggy" HENDERSON-4 was born 1 (Robert Williamson) was born1 on 12 Jan 1919 in Farm Home, Lucky Lake, SK Canada. She was christened on 3 Jan 1960 in Calvin Presbyterian Church, Regina, SK Canada.

As It Was, by Peggy, 1996. I am the eldest of four children born to Robert and Rose Henderson. I was born at home on Sec 25-23-9-W 3rd. The town of Lucky Lake was later built on this land. Our family moved to Sec 31- 23-7-W 3rd and farmed there for a number of years. Whitby school was built on the S/W corner of this land. When the dry years came we moved to the Tisdale area where my parents bought a 1/4 section of land in the Evington School District. I obtained most of my education at Whitby school and some at Evington school.

On May 31st 1937, I married Mervyn Luther Hewitt of the Eldersley district. We were married at the United Church Manse in Tisdale, by the Rev .R. J. Smith. When we were first married we worked in the Eldersley area for Pete Relland, Mervyn on the farm in the summer and both of us at the logging camp in the winter. In 1939, we bought a 1/4 section of land north west of Eldersley S/E 1/4 of Section 17-45 -13-W of 2nd. We farmed there until the fall of 1941. We still have an inventory of the value of farm items recorded in 1941, some of the items are; House $300.00: Barn $10.00: 3 Geese @ $1.00 each: 21 Chickens @ .60 cents each: 50 bushels of wheat @ 50 cents per bushel and oats at 30 cents a bushel. Household items included a cream seperator for $15.00, pots and pans $5.00. On Jan 20th 1941, we sold a pig which graded select and received $14.23. February of the same year another was sold at $10.10 per hundred weight for a total of $11.63. Our son Garry was born on April 20th 1941 at Mrs Griggs Nursing Home in Tisdale. Dr. Thorleifson was in attendance.

We moved to Weyburn Sask in the fall of 1941. Mervyn worked for Gibbs construction, building the runways at Outram airport. This was during the second World War and Outram was one of the many training bases for allied airman. During this period we lived in Estevan where we started a small Gift and Variety Store. Due to the war, supplies were hard to get and the store was not a success.

In 1942, we moved to Roche Percee Sask, where Mervyn worked for The Winnipeg Supply and Fuel Coal mine. He continued to work at the mine even though it was sold several times. Some of the names that I remember are, Old Mac, Great West Coal and Manalta Coal. Our daughter Muriel Ellen Mae was born November 25th 1943 at Bienfait Hospital, Beinfait Sask. Dr. Scott was in attendance.

After our children were finished school, I worked part time for a number of years at the Roche Percee post office. We rented the General Store at Roche Percee for a year sometime during the 1950s. It was sold a year later and we decided against buying it. Mervyn and I moved to St Albert, Alberta in August 1973. Merv continued to work for Manalta Coal (Mannix) as supervisor of a dragline until he retired in June 1980. When we first moved to St Albert I worked part time in a Drug Store later worked part time for the same company as Merv keeping books, answering the phone and radio. God has been very good to us. Over the years we have been fortunate to have spent many wonderful times with our children, grand children and great grand children. Our relatives are spread across Canada and the United States. The fun times to-gether are too numerous to record. We also cherish our many wonderful friends. The dances, card parties and social visits we have attended, are pleasant memories.

Our 50th anniversary was our biggest surprise. Our children, grandchildren, families and friends had a surprise dinner party for us at The St Albert Inn. The following day another big suprise party which was held at our next door, friends and neighbors Pat and Al Cheyne. Many of our long time friends and families attended. Some we had not seen in years. They even had a Bag Piper to escort the Mayor of St. Albert and the local M.L.A. to the party. We were presented with a trip to England and Scotland We traveled to England in 1985. Bob and Bertha flew from Los Angeles and met us at Gatwick Airport. We rented a car and toured England, Scotland and part of Wales. The sights were exciting and interesting. We also had the pleasure of meeting, for the first time, our cousin Derrick and Joan Juniper. We also visited with our cousin Jack Cozens. We really enjoyed our trip overseas and had a good time travelling with Bob and Bertha. A big "Thank You" to all.

Margaret married (MRIN:2) Mervyn Luther HEWITT-8 son of Simon HEWITT-380 and Sarah Ellen BASS-381 (MRIN:134) on 31 May 1937 in United Church Manse, Tisdale, SK Canada.
